RV Park Review: Premier RV Resorts Redding, CA

June 3, 2016 by Eric Highland 4 Comments

Brittany and I have been on an incredible adventure this year. Our faithful readers know we’ve been calling it our “Grand Loop Trip.” For those new to our blog, welcome!

We started from Austin, Texas and we’re currently making our way up to Seattle to visit family for the summer.

Eric Brittany Highland Lassen Volcanic National Park

We found fallen and falling snow only an hour away from Redding at Lassen Volcanic National Park

We like to keep our trips between spots really short. Really short! We typically travel 250 miles every two weeks. So it takes us a long time to get anywhere but, we get to discover little gems we’d never otherwise find. We know other full-time RVers can relate to this.

However, short trips between spots doesn’t mean that we stay just anywhere. On the contrary! Since we’re staying for two weeks at each stop, and quite often in a small town, we take our time choosing each destination carefully.

So, when we were doing our research into places to stay along the I-5 corridor in northern California, we were happy to find the easily accessible Premier RV Resorts Campground in Redding, CA.

Why Redding? Plenty of amazing food options, a national park within an hour’s drive, an incredible national recreation area just 20 minutes away and a super friendly visitors center!

Why Premier RV Resorts in Redding? Well read on; that is what this review is all about.

RV Site Details: Premier RV Resorts Redding, CA

Site 119 Premier RV Resorts Redding

Meriwether in Site 119

  • Site Pad Material: Level sites with concrete pads
  • Water: Yes, included with daily rate
  • Electricity: Yes, included with daily rate
  • Sewer: Yes (most sites), the lowest daily rate listed is for partial hookup sites that have everything but sewer. All other RV sites have full hookups. See above.
  • Laundry: Yes
  • Cable TV: Yes, though it wasn’t working at our site during our stay (in all fairness, cable wasn’t important to us, so we never asked the office to look into it). However there is enough to do in the area that if you are sitting in front of your TV during your stay you are doing it wrong. But if you must have your TV fix, cable should be available and if you have satellite, consider one of the Super Sites (sites 116-120) for a clear view of the sky.
  • Wi-fi: Yes and included in the site fee. Internet tended to be stronger in the mornings and evenings. However we did find it to be intermittent at times under normal usage and definitely not intended for streaming video, as per the park rules.
  • Dump Station: Yes
  • Propane: Yes
  • Pull Throughs: Yes
  • Back In: Yes
  • Big Rig Friendly: Yes
  • Pet Friendly: Yes (very)

  • Additional Information: All park roads are paved and wide. The foliage and trees at the park are gorgeous! Sites have adequate space between them, but limited space for outdoor patio furniture unless you are in one of their 5 Super Sites which we stayed in (sites 116-120). Outdoor pool and other amenities abound (see below.) Quiet hours from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. There is a daily newspaper delivery to your site. No ground fires allowed, but propane fire pits are okay and always fun for entertaining.

Particulars of Our Stay

Premier RV Resorts Redding CA

We enjoyed walking around Premier RV Resorts every day

  • Dates of our Stay: May 14-27, 2016
  • Site Number: #119
  • Cellular Coverage: 4 bars LTE on AT&T (we were able to tether and stream Netflix from our phones with no problem), 5 bars LTE on Verizon (again, worked with no problems).
Highland Baby Announcement

Baby Nomad is due December 5, 2016!

  • Most Memorable Moment at the park:  It would have to be our impromptu photo session that we did announcing the baby boy that we’re expecting! Who would have thought that we’d announce with photos taken at this RV park. It was a lot of fun doing the photo shoot and you can read about all of that baby goodness here.
  • Other Awesome Moments: We didn’t get a picture, but we did see deer walking around on the grass right at our site! Also, it was pretty hot during our stay, so many of our fellow campers stayed indoors. As a result, we didn’t get to meet as many folks during our daily walks as we normally do. But the fellow patrons we did meet at Premier RV Resorts Redding, CA were really nice. There was this one young couple with adorable kids. They were right next to the playground. The chalk art the kids made on the pavement should have been put in a museum. It was awesome!
  • Least Fun Moment: The landscaping crew at Premier RV Resorts Redding, CA is constantly on the move. They do a fantastic job of keeping the grounds manicured, as you’ll see in our photos. However, one day one of the riding lawnmowers took a chunk out of our patio rug. Ugh! Things happen. To his credit and the resort’s, the crew member came up to us and let us know right away. We informed the office, and they simply had us find a new one and they paid for it in full with a kind apology. On that note, I just want to say that if you ever have a problem with something at a place you are staying, don’t leave a negative online review as a knee-jerk reaction. Talk to the office and see how they want to handle it. Give them a chance to make things right. A little patience and kindness goes a long way to foster good relationships on both sides of the fence!
  • Fun People We Met: Jody the general manager and Juanita her right hand! No question about it, these two are a riot and so much fun to just hang out and talk with. Having kind and capable front desk people makes all the difference in any stay. So glad we got to meet them both! If y’all are reading this, hi! We hope to see you again sometime! Our time there flew by so fast, the day we were checking out they were both shocked that it had been two weeks already.

Personal Reflections on Our Stay at Premier RV Resorts Redding, CA

Welcome to Premier RV Resorts Redding

Pulling into Premier RV Resorts

We left the Bay Area from Petaluma, CA and made the 224-mile trip to Redding on May 14th. We had one minor mishap on the way there when one of our bay doors (which was confirmed closed and locked before we left) flew open and my toolbox slid out onto the shoulder. A good Samaritan flagged us down to let us know where he had seen the tool box on the side of the road and I was able to go back and recover it. Other than that, the rest of the trip was smooth and it was an easy drive up the I-5 corridor.

Checking into Premier RV Resorts Redding, CA was easy. We got out of our rig, stretched our legs and headed into the office where we received a friendly greeting, were provided the park rules and map, and then escorted to our site by one of the team members on a golf cart.

The night we arrived, I took a walk around the campground and shot some of the photos below.

Premier RV Resorts Swimming Pool

The swimming pool reaches a depth of 7 feet

Just behind and to the side of the main building where you check in is their outdoor pool. You might not think it gets hot enough for an outdoor pool in northern California. You’d be wrong. Come to think of it, there is a water park practically next door to the Premier RV Resorts Redding facility with amazing reviews called Waterworks Park! Not too expensive either.

Gazebo Premier RV Resorts Redding

Brittany loved smelling the jasmine blooming underneath the gazebo

They also have a gazebo and communal fire pit next to the pool where they host get-togethers and ice cream socials, as well as happy hours!

Walking Path Premier RV Resorts Redding

We saw a guest fishing off the walking bridge during our stay

They have a small pedestrian bridge that goes over a creek which divides the campground into two sections, and the campground itself has some gorgeous plants and trees as you’ll see in the next image.

Landscaping Premier RV Resorts Redding

Oleander was in bloom across the campground

The landscaping is top notch and walking around the park was a delight. We’d regularly walk on both sides of the park.

BBQ Grill Premier RV Resorts Redding

Two guest BBQ grills are available if you don’t have your own

Didn’t bring a BBQ grill, but still want to get grilling? They’ve got not one, but two guest BBQ grills available for common use.

Clubhouse Kitchen Premier RV Resorts

The clubhouse and kitchen offer a clean and roomy space for group gatherings

And if you’ve got a bigger meal in mind, they also have a clubhouse, which has a full-sized kitchen, refrigerator, dining table, couches, lending library, TV and more. It was hard to get the whole space in one photo!

Fitness Room Premier RV Resorts Redding

Fitness room at Premier RV Resorts in Redding

Ate too much at those grills with the meals you cooked up? Well, they have a fitness room available for guests, too.

Laundry Room Premier RV Resorts Redding

The laundry room is co-located with the clubhouse and fitness room

The clubhouse exterior where the kitchen is. As you can see through the window, they also have a nice laundry facility. There are also restrooms here available for use and another set of restrooms and laundry on the other side of the creek.

Playground Premier RV Resorts Redding

The playground is located next to the swimming pool in the shade

In the shade of some nice trees is a playground for the little ones. So nice to have this area shaded as it does get hot in the late spring and summer!

RV Propane Premier RV Resorts Redding

We filled up with reasonably-priced propane before leaving the resort

If you need to fill up your propane tanks, you can do so right on site. We filled up our onboard propane in Meriwether (our RV) for $2.99 a gallon! Not bad for California and super convenient.

Back In RV Site Reddding

For those of you not considering a Super Site, here is a photo of a typical back-in site. Not too shabby eh?

And for those of you who like a pull-through site, here is a typical example. They are all pretty nice!

Rhythm Cat RV Wanderlust

Rhythm poses at our RV site in Redding, CA

We don’t have a dog; we have a feral rescue cat and a dragon. But for those with four-legged friends of the canine variety, Premier RV Resorts Redding has two sizable, fenced dog runs!

And finally, though we didn’t take pictures of them since this article is for RVers, Premier RV Resorts Redding also has yurts, space for tent camping, a horseshoe pit, a volleyball net and even a little cabin built for two!

Things to Do in the Redding, CA Area

Deja Vu Restaurant Redding CA

We had a delicious brunch at Deja Vu, and Brittany went back later in the week to try the coffee shop

This article is long enough, but we’d be remiss if we didn’t tell you about the awesomeness that Redding and the surrounding area has to offer.

  • Check out Lassen Volcanic National Park less than an hour away.
  • Don’t miss Whiskeytown National Recreation Area about 20 minutes from the park.
  • Do yourself a favor and consider eating at three spots while you are in town. Deja Vu (only open for breakfast and lunch, but our favorite!), Bartel’s Giant Burger (we went twice; get the special sauce on the burger and try one of their shakes) and Cinder’s Wood Fired Pizza (don’t miss the hot honey on your pizza. Trust me on this!).
  • Hit up the Turtle Bay Exploration Park for a day filled with fun.
  • Utilize the Visit Redding folks on Facebook! They are wonderful!

Final Thoughts on Premier RV Resorts Redding, CA

If you are ever taking the drive up the I-5 corridor and need to stop somewhere between the Bay Area and Portland, this is a great choice! There is a reason the Premier RV Resort in Redding is rated 10/10/10 on Good Sam.

Premier RV Resorts Locations

Premier RV Resorts’ five locations in the northwest United States

Now what you might not know is that Premier RV Resorts Redding, CA is just one of five Premier RV Resort Properties. The other four are found in Eugene, Lincoln City and Salem, Oregon, and they have one in Granite Lake, Washington.

We’ve only stayed at the one in Redding, but if the others are anything like this one, we’d be happy to stay at the other four, too.

Have you stayed in a Premier RV Resort? Do you have anything to add? Any other thoughts on one of their properties? Maybe you have a question for us about Redding. We love comments, so please don’t hesitate!

Disclosure: We reached out to Premier RV Resorts when we found out we were headed through their area. They offered to put us up at their Redding RV park in exchange for an honest review about our stay. All opinions and experiences in this article are our own and we’re happy to answer any questions you may have.
