Captain’s Remarks

18:44 - A regular and full workday for us. Spent the better part of the day working on the presentation for Wednesday. We’ll be teaching interior design professionals on the use of Facebook and Pinterest for business.

Brittany and I have a chemistry that is hard to explain. It tends to come across in everything we do. If you’d like to HEAR what I’m talking about, you can check out this podcast we did for our Austin blog. To put this in perspective, this podcast is a ONE TAKE deal. We just kind of wing it and run with it, just click on the play button at the link and make sure your speakers are on.

Yeah, we’re pretty much like that all the time. It isn’t a show, it’s just us.

18:50 - The RV life is good. As Brittany remarked today, “It feels like we’re on vacation.” And it really does. There is that sense of newness everywhere we go. The neighbors are new, the sites are different, the view changes all the time and life has become a series of looking through little kid glasses.

You know what I mean right? Kind of like seeing things for the first time everywhere we go and everything is a wonder.

18:53 - At the same time there is something really special about having something that is always the same. That is our home Meriwether. All of our stuff is here. Everything we own on the planet resides in this 40′ behemoth. When we open the door and head inside, it is simply home. Even as I write this, Brittany is dancing in the kitchen barefoot to Reliant K. This is pretty much normal.

But when we step outside, the world changes. One day we may be on a Civil War battlefield, the next in a major city, the following day might find us on a beach.

It is a fun way to live. If you are on the fence about making this decision feel free to comment below. Nothing is off topic or out of bounds. We hope to be a true resource for anyone considering this lifestyle and we’re happy to be transparent about anything that you may have questions about.

Remarks - You get one trip around. Time waits for no man. When you look back on your life what will you remember the most? For us it won’t be cubicles and time clocks. It won’t be monotony and routine. It will be love, adventure, wanderlust and life experience.

And friends, those are pretty good things to look back on. ~ E

Navigator’s Addendum

20:10 - When we lived in our apartments here in Austin and worked from home, it wasn’t unusual to work a full day, manage to get dinner together, and then pretty much collapse on the couch and be good for nothing for the rest of the night if we didn’t have anything on the calendar. We tend to keep a frantic pace, and there are phases of life that are like that by necessity, but that wasn’t Balance.

Now, we still work full days. We still have work deadlines. And, at least while we’re here in Austin, we still have a ton of appointments and meetings every week. But something about our new home gives us balance. It’s SO easy to get outside and grill for dinner. It’s SO easy to throw on a bathing suit and spend an hour at the pool. And the rarity of good campground Wifi keeps us off the couch and away from Netflix (most of the time…other times, it’s a special treat instead of a habit)!

I’m grateful that Balance has come as we’ve transitioned to full-time RV life. -B

Super enjoyable! The hubby and I are getting more excited by the day…and also a little anxious! What do we do with all this ‘stuff’ that we’ve accumulated for the last 20 years?? Photo albums, books, tools, Christmas lights, empty appliance boxes…just in case, Legos, dvd sets that were ‘must haves!’ All those framed photo’s, gardening supplies, oh, and the kazillion pairs of shoes, etc, etc, etc!! Holy…welcome to ‘stuff mart!’ We will sell some but sadly, it’ll be mostly giving away! What a waste of money!!
How did you guys handle this?
Have a great week. Look forward to hearing all about it!!
PS- we really like ‘Reliant K’ as well

    Cheers, from Canada

Thanks for the kind comment, @nikkihark:disqus! Where are you in Canada? I was born in Sarnia, ONT and have family scattered across the country.

Oh…stuff. Here is my update on liquidating our possessions: http://rvwanderlust.com/how-to-liquidate-possessions-for-rv-life. I think everyone is ultimately stuck with giving a ton of stuff away. It’s just too much of a task to sell everything in the time you have.

Thank you for following along on our adventure!

We live in British Columbia on Vancouver ISLAND. A place called POrt McNeill!

    • Brittany Highland

Oh my goodness! You live in one of the most beautiful places in the world. 🙂 One of my dad’s best friends from high school lives on Vancouver Island. Eric and I got engaged at Butchart Gardens. <3

Love reading all the blogs, it seems I must live vicariously through you all at this time. As I spend most days in a cube farm and working on a house what you guys do makes me realize how much we miss out on while stick in our daily ruts. I now spend my time thinking of ways to cut costs…maybe find work online, and some day do as you guys have. Thanks for the inspiration!
