Captain’s Remarks

17:16 - We left Austin Lone Star Carefree RV park around 10:50 and we got to McKinney Falls State Park, about 4 miles away in short order. We were hooked up and settled by 11:20.

Site number 9 at McKinney Falls State Park in Austin, TX

We realized that our blinkers on Meriwether have stopped working. No idea why or what happened. So we’re going to have to figure this out before we take off on our journey. I’m also suddenly concerned about our odometer. Austin Lone Star Carefree RV park is about 4-5 miles from McKinney Falls State Park, but our odometer is showing that we traveled 10 miles. Gonna have to watch this.

17:19 - I love this park. I went for a walk, (I’m trying to get my FitBit steps in) and I saw 2 armadillo and a doe. I caught the dillo on camera, but failed to get the doe as she was moving too fast for me to get my phone out and snap a pic.

The little Armadillo I ran across during my walk.

I think if I could just always stay in County, State and National Parks I would. I really like them more than private campgrounds. The people tend to be more friendly, the view is always nicer and the peace and quiet at night is unbeatable. I tend to sleep really well in parks like this, and I’m looking forward to tonight’s sleep.

17:24 - Brit took off to get her hair did and to donate blood because she’s a rockstar like that. Me, I think I’m gonna go for another walk before it gets dark, come back and settle in for a movie.

Remarks - I love to eat. I love to eat great food. I love to eat great and unhealthy food. The RV lifestyle though has had me gaining weight as I haven’t been moving around as much as I used to. I’m really glad I got this FitBit, because though I like to eat, I’m also competitive. I believe my competitive nature outweighs my desire to eat. I wonder if any other RVers have found themselves gaining weight after getting into the full-time lifestyle. I wonder if it’s just me. ~ E

Navigator’s Addendum

19:01 - Just got back from my errands. Went to get a haircut at Salon Colour Bar (formerly The Beauty Jar) in northwest Austin. The stylists are always down to earth and the space is nice. I really liked my stylist today, Carmen. She loves to travel and is looking forward to a roadtrip to Seattle this weekend, so she was really interested in the full-time RV lifestyle.

Afterwards, didn’t feel like going straight home, and it was rush hour anyway. So I went to Central Market, a Whole Foods-esque grocery store from the owners of HEB. Got some carrot ginger bisque and multigrain rolls and went to eat them outside. I stopped to eat because I wanted to give blood at The Blood Center of Central Texas right across the street. They call me all the time to ask me to come in and donate, and I’m always gone. :/ So I made up for it today!

Happy to be home, and happy that home is McKinney Falls State Park now. Really jealous of all the exploring Eric got to do while I was gone. Can’t wait to do some exploring myself!

Tomorrow is a busy day with two client meetings scheduled. -B
