Our second month of adventuring in Colorado this summer was just as awesome as the first. If you haven’t learned about the campgrounds we stayed at, food we ate or activities we enjoyed in Colorado Springs, Golden and Yellowstone (okay, not exactly Colorado)…read all about it now! [Read more…]
Summer 2015 Adventures in Colorado

Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs
Since we began fulltime RVing, so many of our fellow travelers raved about the beauty of Colorado and how much they enjoyed their time here. It didn’t take us long to catch the bug. Breath-taking natural wonders, a culture that revels in healthy, outdoor activity…what’s not to love?
When all is said and done, we’ll have spent more than two months in Colorado this summer. Hopefully this rundown of our activities will inspire your own travels, and it will surely keep the memories fresh for us! [Read more…]
8 Best Memories of Memphis

We had a week-long stopover in Memphis, TN from March 28-April 3rd as we made our way northeast to Kentucky. I had only ever driven through Memphis and it never left a good taste in my mouth. I remember being appalled when I first found out how much it costs to visit Graceland. I decided to visit in my imagination instead.
But our week stay this spring erased the bad taste in my mouth, replacing it with craft cocktails and amazing fried chicken. Apart from the foodie pleasures, the historical worth of the city of Memphis is heavy. I’m glad we had a chance to appreciate it.
Without further adieu (and because I’m almost two months behind), behold! 8 of our best memories of Memphis, TN. [Read more…]
Our Favorite Food and Activities in Hot Springs, AR

Tulips in bloom at Garvan Woodland Gardens
Our week in Hot Springs has come to an end. From the start of our adventures to the day we rolled down the road once again, we had a wonderful visit. Hot Springs, AR is most definitely one of my favorite stops on our RV journey so far.
If you’re considering a visit of your own, make sure you catch up by reading about our first day on Bathhouse Row and our RV park, Catherine’s Landing. We packed a ton of other activities and restaurants into the rest of our stay. You may want to add some of them to your own itinerary. [Read more…]
Steamy Adventures in Hot Springs, Arkansas

In front of Quapaw Bathhouse in Hot Springs, AR
We’re on our way to south central Kentucky where we’ll be spending about two months with Eric’s kids. After leaving Austin, we were planning to stay around Mt. Pleasant, TX for our first stop. The only reason was mileage - it was a logical resting point when we divided the total distance we had to travel.
While running our travel plans by our friends Jason and Kristin (the Snowmads), Jason insisted we push a bit further to Hot Springs, AR. Even though getting here meant a looongg nine hour travel day yesterday, we are already so glad we listened to Jason!
One day in Hot Springs, and I’m a fan for life. It has been an amazing day! This is one of my top five places we’ve been in our 13 months of full-time RVing. [Read more…]
Update on RV Repairs and Maintenance: Second Half of 2014

Taking care of our home is very important to us!
Any home you own, whether it has wheels or not, is going to need repairs and maintenance. It’s just a fact of life. Considering we live in a house composed of thousands of parts that are constantly being bumped and shaken, our first year on the road was not so bad as far as repairs were concerned.
The biggest inconvenience (and biggest difference between an RV and “normal” house) is that we have to vacate the premises whenever repairs are done. This takes careful scheduling, and usually means we collect maintenance items to knock out all at one time.
We’ve visited three repair shops since our big breakdown in July, which I want to describe here. I’ll conclude with an overview of all our repairs and maintenance in 2014, as well as associated costs. [Read more…]
2014 in Review: Stats, Photos, Adventures
When we saw our friends at Watsons Wander publish a blog post about their 2014, we wanted one too! We don’t think they’ll mind that we’re borrowing their idea and format. After all, we did help them find some pretty yummy BBQ in Gulfport, MS in 2014!
Since the start of our life as full-time RVers on February 21, 2014, these statistics describe our travels in a nutshell:
Number of States: 10
Number of Overnight Stops: 38
Where We Stayed: 1 state fairground, 1 national forest campground, 2 county parks, 4 state parks, 2 parking lots (visitor center, Lowe’s), 2 service center campgrounds, 9 military bases and 15 private campgrounds.
Free vs. Paid: Staying free isn’t our goal, but 3/38 locations we stayed in 2014 were free.
Camping Fees
Total: $7,854.00
Monthly Average: $654.50 [Read more…]
Tackling Mold in Our RV

Yikes! Mold in our RV!
“Oh…there’s mold down here” is sure to make anyone’s heart sink. We’ve noticed a couple of stray leaks near our front windshield during this abnormally wet summer. But just a couple of weeks ago, Eric noticed a patch of mold in the far corner of the carpeting under our steering wheel. Yikes!
The growth can’t be too old because I like to consider us observant. It’s also not due to any leak we know of, which means there’s water coming in from a mysterious location (not good). We haven’t been able to fix the source of the problem yet, but we jumped on treating what we could see. And it wasn’t pretty… [Read more…]
Following the Blues in New Orleans
Fishing poles and Blues. Peanut butter burgers and baked potatoes. Straw hats. Daiquiris and cover bands on Bourbon. Shrimp po-boys. The way everything smells after the rain. Beignets and cafe au lait. Decatur and Esplanade. Street art for sale. Haunted tours at night.
One of my favorite books, 14,000 Things to Be Happy About, reads just like that. Pages of lists of simple life things that make the heart smile. For a while, Eric and I would read a page of that book each day, putting an initial by the one thing on the page that made us happiest.
Today, my list of things to be happy about comes straight from a page in my life’s book, set in New Orleans. [Read more…]
Good Times in Galveston

Baby Brittany enjoying Galveston
We spent last week in Galveston, TX. Looking back, I have to say it was possibly my favorite stop during our RV journey so far. It was a mixture of some of my favorite things: good food, relaxation, historic sites.
The beachy/laidback atmosphere was exactly what we needed after our three harrowing (albeit productive) weeks at “home” in Austin.
Here’s a collection of what we did (and ate!). I hope you’ll use our fun experiences to plan your next trip. If I’ve left any questions unanswered, or I don’t mention your favorite Galveston stop, please let me know in a comment! [Read more…]
