2017 Full-time RV Travels in Review

This coming February will mark our four-year anniversary of full-time RVing! These stats describe our travels from January through December 2017, as we camped out in Austin for Baby Nomad’s first doctor appointments, then did a six-month loop of the southeastern United States.

Number of States: 9 where we stayed overnight, 11 total that we traveled through. [Read more…]

Hot Springs, Arkansas, Two Years Later

Hot Springs Mountain Tower

“What has been your favorite place to visit?” For the past two+ years, our answer has been Hot Springs, Arkansas. We had the best time when we visited in spring 2015. Our campground was beautiful; we loved the historical bathhouses at the national park and the Gangster Museum of America, and we frequently indulged in the burgers and cocktails at The Ohio Club.

So it was interesting to return more than two years later, with so many miles in between. It isn’t our favorite place anymore, though it’s still in our top 10, if not top 5. It’s not that there’s anything wrong with Hot Springs. It’s just that there’s so much [Read more…]

Our Favorite Food and Activities in Hot Springs, AR

Tulips Garvan Woodland Gardens

Our week in Hot Springs has come to an end. From the start of our adventures to the day we rolled down the road once again, we had a wonderful visit. Hot Springs, AR is most definitely one of my favorite stops on our RV journey so far.

If you’re considering a visit of your own, make sure you catch up by reading about our first day on Bathhouse Row and our RV park, Catherine’s Landing. We packed a ton of other activities and restaurants into the rest of our stay. You may want to add some of them to your own itinerary. [Read more…]

Bathing at the Buckstaff in Hot Springs, Arkansas

Buckstaff Bathhouse in Hot Springs

Buckstaff Bathhouse in Hot Springs, AR

One of the most interesting things we’ve ever experienced on our RV adventures so far was the Buckstaff Bathhouse in Hot Springs, Arkansas.

We were staying at Catherine’s Landing RV park, just 10 minutes away from Bathhouse Row. We left the park around 1:15pm, found street parking and arrived promptly at the Buckstaff by 1:30PM.

There are no reservations at the Buckstaff; it is first come, first served. They close for the lunch hour and reopen at 1:30PM, so we wanted to be first in line. We weren’t. We were about fourth in line even though the doors had just opened, but the short wait allowed us to take in the lobby which is grand. Immediately upon arrival, you feel like you’ve stepped back in time to the golden age of public bathing. [Read more…]

RV Park Review: Catherine’s Landing in Hot Springs, AR

RV Wanderlust Catherine's Landing in Hot Springs

Brittany and I typically travel only ~250 miles every time we move our behemoth RV. There are many reasons for this. Mostly it’s about safety, exploration and rest.

But sometimes, on rare occasions, we break our own rule. Whenever we do, it has to be for a good reason…actually, a spectacular one.

Our original plan was to go from Austin, TX to Mount Pleasant, TX - a distance of 313 miles - and stay for a week. Friends of ours suggested we push further, claiming the push would be worth it. They suggested Hot Springs, AR.

We looked at the map, but it was a 492 mile trek to Hot Springs. Yuck. That would typically mean two full days of travel for us.

In order to even consider it, we’d have to be really impressed with the local area, and we’d want to find an RV park that was outstanding.

We found both. [Read more…]

Steamy Adventures in Hot Springs, Arkansas

We’re on our way to south central Kentucky where we’ll be spending about two months with Eric’s kids. After leaving Austin, we were planning to stay around Mt. Pleasant, TX for our first stop. The only reason was mileage - it was a logical resting point when we divided the total distance we had to travel.

While running our travel plans by our friends Jason and Kristin (the Snowmads), Jason insisted we push a bit further to Hot Springs, AR. Even though getting here meant a looongg nine hour travel day yesterday, we are already so glad we listened to Jason!

One day in Hot Springs, and I’m a fan for life. It has been an amazing day! This is one of my top five places we’ve been in our 13 months of full-time RVing. [Read more…]
