We got our generator fixed, so we can dry camp again! After taking Meriwether into the shop in Lake Havasu City on Friday morning, we were out of there right after lunch (more on that repair-and what we found out was wrong-soon).

Though we had paid for Cattail Cove State Park through Friday night, we decided to start our journey to Las Vegas. We didn’t find out until today, but Cattail Cove actually refunded our last night. That was so considerate of them!

Aside from quick overnights on our way to somewhere, Eric and I have only ever dry camped at Xscapees’ Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta convergence, surrounded by friends who have inexhaustible knowledge when it comes to going off the grid.

So when we had the opportunity to do some real wild camping, all by ourselves like big kids, we were really excited. Our excitement increased as we researched BLM land near Sedona, AZ. We spent an afternoon scouting locations, and loved the look of Campendium’s Loy Butte Road spot. [Read more…]

We Survived Our First Full Week of Dry Camping (And You Will, Too)

I guess we put the spoiler in the article title…sorry about that. Before I get into the dramatic story of our first full week of RV dry camping, I should make a few things clear:

  1. If you dry camp regularly, this article will make you laugh at us. So please stop reading now.
  2. Eric and I are not mechanically-inclined.
  3. We like our creature comforts. When we’re comfortable, we’re more productive during the work week and have fewer distractions. That’s what we tell ourselves. In our minds, comfort has always been inextricably linked to full hookups. Anything else is just complicated.
  4. I wish someone had written this article a year and a half ago when we were going on the road. My FOMO has kicked in-how many beautiful places have I missed because I didn’t know I could survive dry camping?
