Loving Flagstaff for Off-roading, Natural Beauty, Proximity to Everything

April 16, 2018 by BrittanyHighland Leave a Comment

Visiting Flagstaff Arizona With RVI was mad at Flagstaff, Arizona, last time we were there. We only went because our first attempt at wild camping had failed miserably. As far as I was concerned, Flagstaff was an inferior Plan B to the grandeur of Sedona.

But time was kind to my memories of Flagstaff, and Eric never had a grudge like I did. So when it came time to plan our route for 2018, I gave Flagstaff another shot.

Good thing I did. Because after our two-week visit, I kinda think Flagstaff has made my Top 5 list of places we’ve stayed in four+ years of fulltime RVing.

The day we arrived in Flagstaff, our three older boys flew in for Spring Break. Eric drove to Phoenix to pick up Darius (20), Javen (17), and Silas (14). [Read more…]

Exploring in the Shadows of Sedona, Arizona’s Gorgeous Red Rocks

Cathedral Rock Sedona Arizona

Cathedral Rock in Sedona, Arizona

I visited Sedona for the first time in 2009. It was a short day trip-just enough time for a Pink Jeep Tour and a stroll through Uptown. Touristy stuff. But I was captivated by the scenic beauty. Those red rocks! And I’ve wanted to return ever since.

So when Eric and I started planning our Grand Loop Tour for 2016, I insisted that Sedona have its place on our itinerary. I’ve changed a lot since 2009, so I found the things I experienced seven years ago had lost their charm for me. But, fortunately, I made new discoveries this time that fulfilled my hopes for our visit.

I’ve heard it repeatedly from friends who have visited Sedona. The first time they drive in, they can’t get over the surrounding mountains of rock, with their varied shapes and brilliant colors. Go see them for a slice of Arizona beauty, and stay a while for good food, memorable hiking and browsing this eclectic town. [Read more…]

Our Failed RV Wild Camping Attempt

Wild Camping Sedona Arizona

Our wild camping spot between Sedona and Cottonwood, AZ

Aside from quick overnights on our way to somewhere, Eric and I have only ever dry camped at Xscapees’ Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta convergence, surrounded by friends who have inexhaustible knowledge when it comes to going off the grid.

So when we had the opportunity to do some real wild camping, all by ourselves like big kids, we were really excited. Our excitement increased as we researched BLM land near Sedona, AZ. We spent an afternoon scouting locations, and loved the look of Campendium’s Loy Butte Road spot. [Read more…]
